Girls, let's talk hair! I wanted to share some info about the Keratin Treatment (aka Brazilian Blowout), which has been life changing for me! I've had done at several salons for the past 5 years now. This treatment is like magic making your hair smoother, less frizzy, shinier, and healthier overall. Overtime with age and chemicals, your hair loses its natural Keratin so this treatment will put more back into it.

How did it change your hair?
My hair is naturally really curly and frizzy, which I have always disliked. From putting a lot heat to adding color, my hair has also become very damaged, frizzy, and dry. The Keratin Treatment was my saving grace. With this treatment, my hair is a lot straighter and more manageable. I am so happy take me over an hour to do my hair anymore! Most of the time, my hair comes out more wavy than pin straight.
How long does it last?
The Keratin Treatment lasts about 3 months. It will last long if you take care of your hair and manage how often you wash it. You want to make sure you use sulfate and sodium free products. Now a days, it's not too hard to find cleaner shampoos and conditioners whether you shop at the drugstore or Sephora. You also want to be very careful when swimming in the ocean in sea salt.
What is the process and how long does it take?
First, the stylist will apply a special solution in which you will have to leave in for about 20 minutes. There is some formaldehyde-free treatments so be sure to find out what exactly they are putting in your hair. They will then thoroughly blow dry all of your hair and then flat iron section by section. These last steps will usually release strong fumes so make sure you are in a well ventilated salon, near a window, a fan, or given a mask. The length of the process depends on how long and thick your hair is. My hair and fairly long and super thick so it takes me about 4 hours to get this treatment done. After all of the steps are complete, you will then wait the amount of time needed for that particular treatment to finish activating in your hair. I personally get the treatment that you leave on for 3 days because I feel like it lasts longer on my hair. However, there is treatments you can wash out after 1 hour or the next day. While waiting, you will not be able to get your hair wet or use any hairs ties or clips.

If you're considering getting this treatment keep in mind that there are several types of Keratin out there so be sure to talk to your salon stylist about which one is best for your type of hair. You want to consider what your desired look is and how long you want to wait before washing it out.If you have colored hair, be sure to ask about how the treatment will affect your color. Some treatments might slightly alter your tone. Another thing to note is that this treatment can get pricey depending on where you go so make sure you do your research!
